International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) Referee Practice Exam

The determination of a lift's success in powerlifting is primarily based on the majority of signals received from the judges. In a competition, each lifter is evaluated by a panel of judges, and they indicate their decision with colored lights: a white light signifies a successful lift, while a red light indicates an unsuccessful attempt.

If a lifter receives both red and white light signals, the final result is adjudicated using the majority opinion of the judges. Therefore, if the majority of the panels show white lights, the lift is considered successful. This standard ensures fairness and consistency in judging, as it accounts for varying opinions on the execution of the lift.

Other options may imply different interpretations of the signals, like assuming an automatic failure with any red lights, which does not align with the detailed evaluation the judges provide, or that the head referee exclusively reviews the lift, which is not a standard practice. This system is in place to create a balanced and just method for determining the outcomes of lifts in accordance with the International Powerlifting Federation's guidelines.
